- HELP on !FontConv
- -----------------
-
- This application converts "WFN" fonts, which are supplied
- with the CorelDraw Application of MS-Windows(TM) to
- RISC-OS Outline Fonts.
-
- There are some disadvantages when using these converted
- fonts in comparison to purchased fonts. They are neither
- hinted (that means, that they do not look good at small
- scales, because additional lines within the outline are
- not provided) nor have they scare fold lines (which helps
- the Font manager to render the character to a specific
- size - especially Brezier curves). You can work on these
- problems yourself - just use the !FontEd Application
- (Careware 7) !!!
-
- How to use:
- -----------
-
- At first get a copy of the WFN files and convert them with
- !PcDir (Careware 7), for example, on Archimedes Discs.
- Start the !FontConv Application, which installs itself on
- the iconbar. For converting the fonts there is (naturally)
- a destination directory needed, and a seen !Fonts
- Application is used. To put the converted fonts in another
- directory just type <F12> and then SET Font$Prefix <Your
- Directory> (e.g: RAM:$ when using a RamDisc).
- Then drag simply the WFN-Files from the filer onto the
- !FontConv Icon (multible drag is possible).
- Then the !FontConv Application takes over the whole
- machine (Multitasking would get to complicated...).
-
- The Desktop graphics is cleared and the Postscript (TM)
- Fontname is stated, including points for easier conversion
- to Risc-Os Names.
- Simply type <RETURN> for accepting the name stated above,
- type <#>and <RETURN> if you want to skip this Font, or
- edit the fontname by typing and/or use the copy-key Option
- together with the cursor keys...
- But keep in mind that the font name may only be 40
- Characters long, so the arrows are provided (just in
- case).
-
- Then you will see on the left side information on the
- character being converted (BoundingBox and so on), and on
- the right hand side, the outlines will be drawn. You can
- interrupt the conversion of the actual font with escape.
-
- After having converting a font there might be some other
- fonts in the same file and the same procedure will be
- repeated...
-
- If it is the last font in the file the Application will go
- back to Desktop and continue as a multitasking
- Application.
- But if you made a "multible drag" then it starts all over
- again...
-
- Sorry for the speed of this program, but it is only to be
- used once on each font, so I did not bother... But you can
- speed the calculations up a bit with the RMFASTER BASIC
- Option !!!
-
- To improve speed further the programm changes to mode 0
- while rendering the chars!!!
-
- Another improvement is, that the system-variable
- <Convert$Input> controlls the input-procedure. That means,
- when <Convert$Dir> is set to "ON" you have to type the
- name of the font in yourself. If set to any other value
- the name of the RISC-Osfont will be the converted name of
- the Postscript-font. You can drag all the wfn-fonts onto
- the Convert-Icon and they will be converted one after the
- other without having to input the name...
